Today, as the National Security Archive celebrates the beginning of Sunshine Week, the Mexico team prepares for the Second Annual meeting of State Coordinators of México Infórmate, a planning conference for Mexico’s version of Sunshine Week, which takes place this fall. The conference hosts 40 participants representing 22 states and the capital in Mexico, and will take place in Canún, Quintana Roo, México, March 16-18th.
The state coordinators and participants will attend workshops, discussion groups, and planning sessions in order to prepare for the 2011 México Infórmate. Coordinators will share success stories and give advice to each other about strategies for getting people excited about the “right to know” and government transparency.
Distinguished guest speakers will conduct workshops and informative lectures for the participants on topics such as “Reforms in the Federal Transparency Law”, presented by Oscar Guerra Ford, Pesident of the COMAIP, and “The Future of Transparency” by Dr. Mauricio Merino, Director of the Division of Public Administration of the CIDE, among others.
Last year’s México Infórmate was a smashing success garnering nation-wide media attention. This is just a small sample of last years’s activities:
- Average citizens, journalists, and organizations attended workshops on how to use Mexico’s federal freedom of information law in Sinaloa.
- NSArchavist Kate Doyle gave a lecture titled “Memory, Forgetting and Democracy”, and discussed the importance of transparency and democracy.
- In San San Luis Potosí, members of the public attended a seminar, “Libraries and Access to Public Information”.
Coordinators and participants of this week’s conference are excited to start to plan for this year’s México Infórmate with the hopes to have an even bigger event!
Stay tuned!
