The Department of Defense is attempting to buy up all copies of former Army Intelligence Officer Anthony Shaffer’s book, Operation Dark Heart: Spycraft and Special Ops on the Frontlines of Afghanistan – and the Path to Victory. The DIA objected to some of the information Shaffer wrote about his time on the front lines in Afghanistan; St. Martin’s Press will –apparently– release a censored version in the future. Shaffer has previously contended that identified Mohammad Atta as a potential terrorist before 11 September 2001.
The Memphis Commercial Appeal has used FOIA to uncover evidence that Ernest Withers – the photographer/civil rights activist known for covering the Little Rock Nine, the murder of Emmett Till, and the MLK Assassination – was actually an FBI informant.
